Description:
Commissionaires is a not-for-profit provider of security services that operates across the nation. There are now 15 divisions representing all of the provinces of Canada and three territories. Commissionaires Southern Alberta is responsible for providing professional security services for Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Suffield. We have protected people and property for public and private sector clients from coast to coast for more than 90 years.
Job Purpose
This position reports to the Security Supervisor and/or Operations Manager.
The primary responsibilities of Access Control are the following:
(i) Prevent unauthorized access of persons, items and goods into the Restricted Area.
(ii) Provide emergency evacuation as required.
Schedule
Must have open availability which includes Days, Nights, Weekends, Weekdays.
Shifts are 12 hours in length 0600-1800 or 1800 to 0600.
Duties and responsibilities
- Verify and validate the need and right of individuals entering the Restricted Area at employee Access points in the ATB and Airside to ensure compliance with security regulations
- Verify deliveries of goods into the Restricted Area and ensuring compliance with the Security Supply Chain program.
- Be proactive in offering assistance to all persons - without leaving Post
- Report all persons with expired, tampered with, confiscated, void, cancelled, reported lost/stolen, or damaged passes to Operations Centre
- Report all known or suspected security and safety concerns, security breaches, criminal offenses, suspicious activities, unattended items, etc. to the Operations Centre. Maintain visual surveillance pending arrival of police, without leaving the Post – unless required for response to a life safety requirement
- Note and report facility deficiencies to the Operations Centre (equipment failure, lighting problems, safety hazards, etc.)
- Document and report all complaints, problems, incidents, events, activities, deficiencies or concerns and inform the Supervisor as soon as possible
- Maintain written and/or electronic notebooks which detail activities, events, reports, etc
- Implement enhanced security measures and safety protocol as directed by the Airport Authority
- Complete other associated duties (e.g. implementation of enhanced Security Measures etc.) as may be assigned from time to time
- Report all known or suspicious safety, security and/or criminal activities immediately to the Operations Centre via radio
Personnel Requirements
- Must be a Canadian Citizen or a Permanent Resident or Landed Immigrant as defined in the “Immigration Act”. If a Canadian Citizen, hold a Canadian Birth Certificate or Canadian Citizenship Card OR if a Landed Immigrant, hold a valid Permanent Residence card.
- Must hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must maintain a Transportation Security Clearance at all times for the duration of the Contract.
- Must hold an Alberta Security Guard license.
- Must hold an Emergency or Standard First Aid certificate
- Required to be able to communicate effectively in written and spoken English. Additional languages are considered an asset.
- Personnel are expected to be physically able to perform the job assigned to them.
- Maintain a high level of radio proficiency.
- Formal education sufficient for effective communication, including reading, writing and comprehension and effective decision making as required by the position.
