Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Working in collaboration with the Manager, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, leads the articulation and communication of Island Health’s vision of respecting diversity and coordinates the development and implementation of new policies, procedures and standards which further promote diversity, equity and inclusion in the region.
The lead collaborates with relevant programs, departments and/or leaders across the organization to support the incorporation of key DEI policies and frameworks, into core systems and practices across the organization. The Accessibility Lead will be responsible for collaborating and working across portfolios, providing mentorship and supervision to indirect staff to advance DEI priorities. Leads projects, proposes new initiatives, liaises with other Island Health programs, and assists with engagement, communications and quality improvement activities as it relates to Island Health’s commitment to advance diversity, equity and inclusion.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in diversity studies, organization development, education, psychology, sociology, business administration, and/or health administration, supplemented with three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in program and project management, change management, organization development, stakeholder engagement, training and development, and conducting program evaluations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Preference may be given to those with lived experience with accessibility, diversity, inclusion and equity.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of current literature related to accessibility, diversity, equity and inclusion. .
- Conceptual understanding of the dimensions of diversity.
- Conceptual understanding of how to build diversity competency in the healthcare context.
- Ability to understand, develop, maintain, and support the implementation of policies related to diversity.
- Strong communication skills and abilities to advocate in various forums.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically.
- Ability to consult, plan, implement, organize and problem solve.
- Ability to collaborate with all levels of individuals within the organization, including provincial partners and manage sensitive and confidential issues.
- Working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations.
- Ability to exercise initiative and work both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to perform the duties of the position.
