Rochester & Rutherford Hall provides an engaging environment for young people to explore new levels of independence. The environment is structured to enhance personal growth, support academic success and achieve goals that reflect individual potential. Based at the heart of the University of Canterbury, the central location of the Hall allows ease of access to UC facilities and provides accommodation to 192 students.

Reporting to the Principal, the Accountant will take responsibility for the overall financial management of the Hall. This is a hands-on role and will cover a wide range of tasks including:

  • Monthly Profit & Loss, cashflow and balance sheet reporting
  • Budget preparation and reporting
  • Preparation of Annual Financial Statements for Audit
  • Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processing and collection of fees
  • Processing of fortnightly payroll
  • Management of fixed asset register, rental property payments, bonds and agreements
  • Annual insurance renewal
  • Filing of GST and PAYE returns
  • Reporting on financial performance to Principal, Executive Council, Property & Finance Committee and Trust Boards

To be considered for this role, you will have previous experience in a similar accounting role where you have prepared financial statements and managed budgets. You will have a high level of attention to detail, proficiency using Excel and Xero and you will also be happy to roll up your sleeves and process Accounts Payable/Receivable invoicing and Payroll. You may be CA qualified but equally we will consider candidates who are qualified by experience. The Accountant will build strong relationships with staff, as well as hall residents, in regard to payment of fees and other financial considerations. We are looking for someone with a positive and engaging personality, and an adaptable and flexible approach.
In return, this role offers you excellent flexibility in being able to manage your hours and your workload to fit your lifestyle. A fantastic working environment awaits you, along with the opportunity to be part of a friendly and collaborative team.
Rochester & Rutherford Hall is working exclusively with Echelon Group for the recruitment of this position. Any unsolicited approaches to Rochester & Rutherford Hall will be forwarded directly to Echelon Group.
