JOB COMPETITION NO. 2024-12
The Town of Qualicum Beach is seeking applications for the permanent full-time position of Accounting Clerk II. The Accounting Clerk II is responsible for the preparation, calculation, accuracy, and completion of a computerized payroll system, including serving as the primary point of contact for an electronic timecard system. Other responsibilities include benefits administration, reconciliation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, including the Municipal Pension Plan, responding to payroll inquiries, front desk coverage, accounts payable coverage, cash receipting and other financial accounting and office duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
- Completion of Grade 12 and Canadian Payroll Association courses or level one or two Accounting courses;
- A minimum two years’ experience in accounting, bookkeeping or payroll administration;
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, and procedures employed in the preparation and processing of payrolls;
- Level one or two accounting courses would be considered an asset;
- Canadian Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification (PCP) would be considered an asset;
- Ability to multi-task and deliver under pressure with tight deadlines;
- Ability to work effectively as a team and strong interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate courteously and effectively in writing, in person and on the telephone;
- Proficient computer skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office 365 applications and other accounting and municipal programs in a Windows environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in working with employee information.
Note: An equivalent combination of education, experience, and knowledge may be considered if deemed acceptable by the employer.
The terms and conditions of employment are covered by the CUPE Local 401 Collective Agreement. The hourly rate of pay will be $36.43 per hour ($37.16 effective July 1, 2024). A probation period will apply to this position. Successful applicants will be expected to work 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30 pm.
