The Controller is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting and regulatory compliance for a client or company. Develops and maintains accounting principles and best practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financials. Address tight deadlines, and a wide variety of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and the development and support of budget and forecast activities. Provides leadership and oversight to colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required
  • CPA designation is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area is required.
  • 3+ years’ management or supervisory experience is required.
  • Experience in a public accounting or professional services or environment is preferred.
  • Understanding and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required.
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to deal effectively with interpersonal relationships.
  • High degree of professionalism including the ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality.
  • Highly organized and capable of performing multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical proficiency and the capability of performing at an intermediate or advanced level with respect to the Microsoft Office Suite of products with an emphasis in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills, or similar software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
  • Reviews, interprets, and analyzes financial and statistical data for Management. Provides logical explanations for monthly, quarterly, and annual variances in general ledger accounts and statistics.
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations and ensure that there is a redundant process backup in place for every critical operation.
  • Collaborates with other leaders to contribute to client project management functions (i.e. proposal development, relationship management, engagement planning & project delivery).
  • Develop monthly and quarterly accounting reports for the management and executive teams.
  • Ensure that daily, monthly, and quarterly Bank activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Developing budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Implements finance and accounting policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine transactions.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
  • Provides direction, training, guidance and oversight to accounting team members. Reviews performance and provides coaching and addresses employee issues and concerns.
