We are seeking an Accounting Manager to join our Civil Construction team based at our Christchurch office. Although you will be based in Christchurch the role encompasses the nationwide Civil Construction business. The Civil Construction business centres on building infrastructure with reinforced concrete. Everything from bridges, water reservoirs and water treatment plants. This role is one of the leads within the Finance and Administration team.
You’ll be responsible for working with all levels of management to support them with their finance and administration requirements.

On a day-to-day basis your tasks may include:

  • Assisting with month and year end reporting requirements
  • Monitor, review and report on financial performance
  • Oversee the development of accurate operational and capital budgets as well as forecasts
  • Assist the Finance Manager in contributing to business planning and supporting the development of new business strategies
  • Analyse and interpret trends and provide proactive financial, accounting and administration advice to the business
  • Assist with managing and developing the team
  • Lead improvements and initiatives to enable efficient and effective processes, systems and procedures
  • Work with the business to develop business cases to support capital investment
  • Further develop reporting on sustainability initiatives

We’re looking for someone with:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • CA or CPA qualified
  • 3+ years of management accountant experience
  • Commercial awareness and financial acumen with the ability to balance strategic and operational activities
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to review and critique financial information
  • Time management skills with the ability to work under pressure, be proactive and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines
  • People leader with a strong team-focus and the ability to coach, guide, develop and lead effectively
  • Experience implementing and leading process improvements
  • Strong stakeholder focus and ability to communicate professionally and effectively at various levels, building strong relationships both externally and internally

Previous exposure to construction would be an advantage but is not essential.
