YOUR APPLICATION MUST DESCRIBE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AS THEY RELATE TO:
- Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of recreational and social programs in a social service setting serving clients of all ages (0 to 99 years of age) with emphasis on adults, multi and school age children and youths.
- Experience addressing the needs of homeless clients.
- Experience assisting persons with psycho/social/physical/ educational/emotional and/or environmental problems in a hostel or similar setting.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Supervisor of Social Assistance or Program Supervisor, you will be responsible for the following:
- Develop, organize, implement and facilitate educational, recreational, and social activities for residents (multi and school age children, youths and adults)
- Work to create and maintain a warm, welcoming adult and child friendly environment
- Ensure all activities meet the needs of the residents, are age appropriate and culturally inclusive. (e.g. external/in-house tournaments, games, educational activities, holiday activities)
- Arrange, publicize and supervise events on and off site, including arranging for transportation, equipment, posters, booking facilities, arranging group rates, and nutritional requirements
- Complete program planners and evaluations, participation records, critical incidents, and other pertinent documentation for management review
- Assist with facilitating resident/children’s meetings that provide residents opportunity to participate in service delivery, program planning, development, and evaluation, and policy development.
- Prepares agenda, takes minutes, and follows up on recommendations
- Attend group outing with children or adults and lead client programming staff
- Monitor programs and activities to ensure established standards and procedures are upheld by staff and residents
- Provide feedback on programs and submits recommendations for program changes to Supervisor of Social Assistance or Program Supervisor
- Train and orient recreational staff and volunteers
- Recommend the purchase of recreational supplies and equipment. Maintain storage and monitor inventory
- Report repairs and replacement needs of equipment and supplies
- Maintain a welcoming environment in all program areas
- Respond to parent enquiries regarding children’s progress, behaviour, health etc., and promotes parental involvement
- Undertake special projects and assignments as required
- Partner and liaise with community agencies to develop, provide and implement an enhanced literacy and life skills based programs e.g. life skills workshops for children and adults.
