ABOUT CHILD DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE

Child Development Institute (CDI) is a leading children’s mental health agency in the City of Toronto offering a range of services to approximately 3,000 children ages 0‐12, youth ages 13-18 and their families each year. Our mission is to promote and support the healthy development of children and to strengthen the families and communities in which they live. We provide four streams of service to families in need: early intervention, family violence, healthy child development and specialized mental health services for children and youth with learning disabilities.

POSITION SUMMARY

CDI is looking for Activity Group Leaders (AGL) to join the SNAP Boys and Girls teams who will be responsible to provide programming and support for the siblings of clients participating in the SNAP clinical programs.
This position requires the skills to plan and deliver fun and engaging activities for children ages 2-12. The AGL also helps prepares healthy snacks for the Activity and SNAP groups and clean up at the end of the night.
The incumbent will work collaboratively with the Activity Group Support Worker and SNAP clinical staff to ensure the needs of each child are met in the Activity Group.
This is a non-bargaining casual contract position requires to work flexible evening hours. Hours are not guaranteed.

  • Accepts and works within the framework of the Institute’s stated vision, mission, values and goals
  • Overall responsibility to supervise the siblings of clients in the SNAP program, participating in the Activity Group ensuring their safety and security
  • Monitors participant behaviours and ensures proactive intervention to avoid potential behavioural escalations
  • Ensures that food and drinks are available to prepare snacks and refreshments for participants in the Activity Group and SNAP Groups and are delivered to groups when required
  • Participates in pre-briefs and post briefs with SNAP Supervisor and staff as required
  • Plans and implements activities for children age 2-12 with Activity Group Facilitators
  • Meets and greets families and accompanies children to Activity Group
  • Maintains attendance records for ministry reporting and makes the record available to SNAP clinical staff on request
  • Ensures that Activity Group spaces are clean and secure following each shift

SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication skills
  • A second language is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR (Level C)
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License (Class G); access to a reliable vehicle with insurance

    Compensation: $22:00 per hour
