Description:

Job Summary:
The Actuarial Analyst works under direction of either an Actuarial Director or the Chief Actuary. Under moderate supervision, responsible for the compilation, analysis and production of data and reports for the purpose of submitting filings of rating values, and the maintenance of rating plans and their parameters.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the production and analysis of reports and supporting materials for rate and/or loss cost filings. This includes documentation of the critical process and workflows.
  • Perform special studies of rating plans and programs (Experience rating plan, Schedule rating plan, Construction programs, and Safety programs). Update Rate Comparisons and perform other studies as required.
  • Assist in the review of critiques of PCRB and DCRB filings performed by outside parties such as the Insurance Department, Small Business Advocate, and other interested parties.
  • Respond to questions and requests for information by Bureau personnel, Insurance Departments and other government agencies, carriers, agents, other Data Collection Organizations, and other interested parties.
  • Become knowledgeable with the reporting requirements and specifications for Financial Data and Unit Statistical Plan data. Assist in the production of specifications for reports from those sources and produce reports using the Financial Call data bases.
  • Perform analysis of proposals for Workers Compensation law and benefit changes.
  • Perform maintenance of manual data bases, provide manual and rating plan parameters to Bureau personnel, and update relevant Bureau websites and general reference information.
  • Communicate with other departments and leaders to discuss information needed, timelines, progress, and methods/ approaches used in the analysis.
  • Participate in continuous learning activities.

Non - Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as requested, which might include but is not limited to process improvements, data extractions, automation/efficiency, special projects, and research.

Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree – Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or a related field.
Experience: None required – actuarial experience, and successful completion of at least one actuarial exams preferred.
Skills Required: Strong problem solving, organizational, oral and written communication skills with the ability to work independently and adapt to various situations. Employee must have the ability and willingness to pass Casualty Actuarial Society Exams. Intermediate Microsoft Office proficiency required to analyze and present information (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint). Some proficiency required in programming enabling the individual to extract and manipulate data, or create macros (R, SQL, SAS). Possess effective communication with all levels of personnel and external contacts.
Work Hours:
Normal Bureau hybrid Flex time is available. Employee must be flexible when needed as projects or deadlines may sometimes necessitate extended hours.
