Job Purpose
The Actuarial Lead is responsible for drafting and distributing new and existing pricing proposals for highly complex pricing requests which includes interpreting and evaluating risk submissions, developing rates and documenting underwriting assumptions. The Underwriting Lead is also responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring new and existing products. This role will develop and deliver products across various LOBs that are priced to drive profitable growth and designed to meet client needs. The Underwriting Lead generally reports to the Underwriting or Actuarial Supervisor, Manager or Director.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Draft and distribute pricing proposals for highly complex pricing requests which includes interpreting and evaluating risk submissions, developing rates and documenting underwriting assumptions.
  • Owns the process of responding to all internal, external or ad hoc requests for business unit/product line supported and DOI objections.
  • Compose new or modify existing client forms and rate filings; independently makes enhancements that will improve work product.
  • Prepare product implementation system specifications and coding, collaborating with the business as needed. Exhibits knowledge of system anomalies and the impacts they have on a process.
  • Monitor changes or trends from underwriting assumptions and recommend corrective action using experience and innovation, considering client and business needs
  • Coordinate with actuarial and initiate product review if necessary.
  • Review claim/contract exceptions and pricing proposal documents.
  • Runs a moderately complex discounted cash flow pricing model and can discuss impacts of the model’s components.
  • As an SME, responsible for knowledge sharing on products and best practices on processes to junior level staff.

Qualifications Required - Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Risk Management or Mathematics.
  • 5 years or more overall professional experience.
  • CPCU, ARM, AU or ARe designations.

Preferred Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Risk Management or Mathematics.
  • CPCU, ARM, AU or ARe designations.
  • 5 years or more overall professional experience.
  • 4 years or more of experience in pricing insurance or warranty products. Has specialized product knowledge.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint.
  • Understands department’s role & scope during planning phases of a project and articulates appropriate level of assumed support.
  • Ability to lead as project manager on standard to complex projects, developing scope and requirements for completion. Meets with project stakeholders.
  • Can delegate standard to complex project tasks to other members of the department appropriately.
  • Demonstrates cordial, clear, and concise writing abilities through various media (email, memorandums, reports, OJTs, etc.) on technical and non-technical topics.
