North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHHS)
Permanent full-time role, 76 hours per fortnight.

Base salary ranges between $74,722 and $83,097 p.a. (AO3).

The role

  • Provide timely administrative support that enhances the care provided by the health team. This may include arranging clinic appointments, referrals, patient travel, booking telehealth sessions.
  • Ability to carry out general office duties using a wide range of office equipment i.e. computer, photocopier, facsimile and ensuring that equipment is correctly maintained.
  • Reception duties (both telephone and face to face contact) that provide a welcoming first contact for clients and stakeholders. Duties include answering enquiries, logging clients into the Queensland Health admission system, completing Medicare forms.
  • Monitor and maintain an effective records management system that ensures integrity and security of files, accurate information, and maintenance of documentation within the system.
  • Produce monthly statistical data.
  • Maintain the Outreach Calendar and provide monthly updates of services to the community.
  • Manage a small team of administration staff.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times to ensure the integrity of the Health Service.

Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful candidate. VPD risk roles: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis. A 3-month period of probation may apply.
The location
Mornington Island (Gunana); the largest of the North Wellesley Islands located in the Gulf of Carpentaria that is currently home to a community of approximately 1500 people.
The Island achieved self-governance in 1978 and is now controlled by the Mornington Shire Council.
The Traditional Owners of Mornington Island are the Lardil people.

The facility is a remote level two (2) hospital under the Rural and Remote Clinical Services Capability Framework with 11 inpatient beds; providing 24/7 acute inpatient and accident and emergency care as well as a comprehensive range of community health services.
The establishment of the Lower Gulf Strategy, a joint tripartite partnership with the Western Queensland Primary Health Network, and Gidgee Healing, guides reform to deliver a primary health care system which better meets the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) peoples in the Lower Gulf. It will integrate the health system at every level, will allow ATSI people to participate in decision making affecting their health, and ensure health services are structured around the needs of the individual, family and community. There is a strong focus on preventive health care and encouraging healthy lifestyles. It means people in communities taking responsibility for their own health, within a supportive framework which they will help construct. All positions within the North West Hospital and Health Service are expected to work in partnership with Gidgee Healing to ensure the best outcomes for the community.
