Job Summary:
To provide general and some specialized administrative support for a department or area such as word processing, report writing, etc. Responds to patient and/or staff needs by consulting with others as appropriate and by following established departmental guidelines. May serve as a work-lead (non-supervisory) for other departmental clerical staff.
Education & Experience
Associate’s degree plus two years of directly related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.
Certifications, licenses or registration required: N/A
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Knowledge and understanding of typical computer systems, tools and programs. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to type 35 words per minute.

Responsibilities

  • Types basic and moderately complex correspondence that may not conform to pre-established standards such as departmental reports (e.g., procedure manuals, lecture materials, submissions to medical journals, medical transcription, etc.)
  • Answers telephones, takes messages, refers calls and frequently resolves general caller needs without the need to refer to others.
  • Schedules meetings as directed, to include room reservation, material preparation and food service if needed.
  • Maintains and updates filing systems for department records, employee files, department correspondence, and other files.
  • Assists with special departmental projects as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintains department supplies; collects and distributes communications materials.

Requires occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional reaching, constant sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking.
