DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Central Regional Hospital
We are currently recruiting or an Administrative Officer II to function as the Unit Administrative Director providing administrative management to the Child and Adolescent Unit. Currently the Child and Adolescent Unit at CRH is limited to a separate 10 bed inpatient unit serving children of approximate ages 5-11 years (latency age), and two separate 13 bed inpatient units serving adolescent males and females. CAU patients receive a full range of inpatient psychiatric services under the guidance of their individual treatment teams. The program is organized around centralized treatment services encompassing a variety of therapeutic groups, leisure activities and accredited educational services.
The Geriatric Services Unit provides inpatient psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and discharge planning for individuals 65 years of age and older. There are 34 beds on this unit. The Medical Psychiatric Unit provides inpatient acute medical care and consists of 12 beds.
The Geriatric, Medical, Child and Adolescent Units operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week with admissions, discharges, and transfer of patients occurring at any time during a calendar period. Additionally, clinic and ancillary services are available Monday – Friday during the hours of 8am to 5pm. Call services are available for Radiology and Respiratory Services. ECT: Patients with severe psychiatric illness may become candidates for ECT when an) accepted treatment algorithms suggest the ECT is indicated or b) alternative conservative treatments have been tried and failed, or c) clinical conditions require such definitive and rapidly acting treatment that alternative treatments may be too slow or unpredictable or d) there is a history of previous response to ECT. ECT provides pre-treatment evaluation, treatment management, continuation/maintenance of ECT and routine performance monitoring.

This position is responsible for the following:

  • Provides leadership and administrative management in planning, organizing and directing multi-unit psychiatric treatment services for patients and their families on CAU, GSU, MPU
  • Develops and maintains an inclusive intra and inter organizational culture that focuses on continuously improving performance to meet the needs of its patients
  • Provide direction and management primarily through a collaborative unit management team structure
  • Provide administrative supervision to the units’ management teams, i.e. Medical Directors, Unit Nurse Director, Chief Psychologist, Unit Chief Social Workers, Dietitian. Provides supervision to CAU, GSU, and MPU clerical support staff
  • Provides oversight in Management Engineering for the units. This includes developing improved efficiencies, monitoring unit activity and staffing with the intent to become more cost-effective and to improve levels of quality, service and productivity. Management Engineering also focuses on quality improvement through evaluating the current unit systems and operating protocols, determining root causes of a particular problem, and developing recommendations for improvement

This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package. The normal work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm, however, as the position is administratively responsible for a 24-hour service, the Director must be available to the Hospital on 2nd and 3rd shifts, on weekends and holidays as indicated. Other work hours may be necessary for meeting with personnel on second and third shifts, conducting administrative rounds, managing emergency conditions, or accompanying surveyors.
