QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Specialized knowledge of the Caregiver Support Program guidelines. Must have thorough knowledge of VA Regulations governing eligibility for entitlement to the Caregiver Support Program and outpatient care. Extensive knowledge of the functions of the VA Medical Center Staff, VACO Office, and Caregiver Support Program Community partners and refer telephone calls and visitors appropriately. Excellent telephone, customer service and interpersonal skills are needed to ensure tack and diplomacy. Knowledge of mathematics and use of a calculator and software computer programs in other to efficiently, effectively and accurately maintain budget preparations and statistics required for weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports. Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include, Word, Power Point, Outlook, Excel and Access is required to retrieve statistics, prepare reports and analyze data. Skill in operating a personal computer and various software packages in order to quickly and accurately produce typed correspondence and reports is a necessity. Thorough knowledge of personal computers and local systems software functions to produce and update a wide range of documents that often require complex formats, such as graphics of tables with text, to edit and reformat electronic drafts and to updates or revised existing databases or spreadsheets, requiring the use of advanced software functions to enhance productivity or meet the needs of complex formats and function keys for preforming a substantial range of functions within each software. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and required format, in order to prepare and proofread correspondence. He/she must have knowledge of office equipment. Knowledge of VA manuals and directives in order to locate references and regulations is also required.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsibilities:

Duties may included but are not limited to:

  • The position requires excellent relational and communication skills; advanced knowledge of and experience with computers; oral and written communication skills and the ability to work with others; particularly military populations and caregivers that provide assistance to these populations.
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with a military veteran population within a medical/psychiatric environment is required. Time management skills and a high level of judgment are necessary.
  • He/she supports all administrative functions for the Caregiver Support Program. The position is critical for the Caregiver Support Program to operate efficiently and successfully.
  • The incumbent will manage the Caregiver Support Program Fund Control Points.
  • The incumbent will develop and maintain financial spreadsheets, ensuring appropriate utilization of funds and making certain that there are not budget deficits and be responsible for reporting this information to the Supervisor and Caregiver Support Program Coordinator.
  • Incumbent will maintains and tracks program census, assists in the preparation of all program reports; assists in tracking internal reviews, action items, quality measures, and the efficiency of the Caregiver Support Program.
  • The Administrative Support Assistant successfully manages multiple competing priorities and manages other administrative duties at the discretion of the Caregiver Support Program Coordinators.
