JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

This role is within the GE Aerospace Additive Design team. The team is responsible for the design, method development, and technical maturation of state-of-the-art additively manufactured components that will be used in GE’s commercial products, including technology development as a part of the CFM RISE program.
As the Advanced Lead Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting and leading efforts focused on the design and testing of our next generation additively manufactured parts. You will be responsible as an individual contributor to drive design and manufacturing changes to meet program requirements, collaborating with cross-functional teams including mechanical design and analysis, thermal design, materials engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program management. You will need to implement lessons learned from other programs and assist in continuing to build out GE’s expertise in additive processes. Other responsibilities for this role may include supporting component delivery efforts, leading technical maturation testing activities, and improving component producibility through design and manufacturing changes.
Your previous experiences will be fundamental in iterating on existing processes and designs. In this position, you will have significant autonomy, working directly with your team lead or serving as a team lead on some projects. You will be required to take ownership of the quality of your work and contribute input into setting your priorities. While executing tasks, you will need to assess your capabilities and seek guidance from your supervisor and technical mentors when necessary.
This role presents an exciting opportunity to make significant impact on the design and innovation of GE Aerospace’s products.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related STEM field from an accredited university and 4+ years prior relevant engineering experience, OR an Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related STEM field from an accredited university and 2+ years prior relevant engineering experience.

Responsibilities:

As a Design Engineer, you will:

  • Execute the mechanical design, analysis, and evaluation of hardware produced using additive manufacturing with sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. Act as interface between mechanical design, manufacturing, and systems engineering teams.
  • Develop specialized knowledge of additive design and module integration. Have awareness as to how work of own team contributes to our commercial programs, future programs, and the Additive integrated product team. Foster awareness of market trends, competition, and how products are differentiated. Serve as a resource for executing best practices and delivering work considered high quality.
  • Use judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas component design, manufacturing, and program management. May use multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
  • Lead small teams through completion of deliverables. Communicate schedule pressures and delegate tasks appropriately to cross functional teams. Collaborate with quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, materials engineering, and the systems engineering teams to address challenges and execute on solutions.
  • Engage with supply chain on the industrialization of components produced using additive manufacturing. Be connected to the details of the additive manufacturing process and work closely with the team at our development facilities.
