Description:

You will provide specialist diagnostic testing and related duties following Pathology Queensland established accredited protocols and standards within Cytogenetics, Division of Genomics in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards. Aditionally, you will apply advanced specialist scientific judgement; in the analysis of patient specimens to verify and validate test results, and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated advanced Cytogenetics knowledge, expertise, skill, scientific judgement and ability to provide specialist advice to laboratory staff and clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to support the management of staff and resources, to work both independently and as a team member, cooperating and communicating effectively with those in the immediate work situation and the wider work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide scientific services of an advanced nature, to ensure the maintenance of relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards and to meet NATA/ISO/TGA accreditation / certification requirements.
  • Demonstrated support of continuous improvement of local service delivery.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • The successful applicant must hold at least a relevant tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Genomics/Cytogenetics.
  • Possession of higher qualification in Genomics (MHGSA, FHGSA, MSc, PhD, FFSc) or equivalent qualification is an advantage.
  • Following consultation with relevant unions, an employee may be required to participate in new or varied rosters.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

  • It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
