Description:

The post holder is a qualified advanced practitioner who is instrumental in leading, promoting, and providing family-centred care for sick neonates using an evidence-based approach and utilising advanced clinical skills and knowledge. The post is intended to offer improved outcomes for neonates by improving services and quality. The post holder will exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role, practicing within clinical protocols.
To attend high-risk deliveries and perform resuscitation/advanced resuscitation of the newborn Infant.
To assess and manage the neonate using advanced clinical skills and specialist theoretical knowledge for the implementation of care in collaboration with senior medical staff and other health care professionals, incorporating: performing, monitoring, and interpreting laboratory investigations.
Initiation of drug therapy and intravenous fluids, including parenteral nutrition and blood or volume expanders according to Patient Group Directions as a supplementary prescriber

PERFORMANCE OF DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES, SUCH AS:

Emergency intubation/elective intubation
Lumbar puncture
Insertion of percutaneous central venous catheter
Insertion of umbilical arterial/venous catheter
Peripheral arterial line
Chest drain
Cranial ultrasound
Requesting and, where appropriate, interpreting the results of investigations such as blood tests, x-rays, USS, ECG’s and EEGs.
Obtaining parental consent and administer immunizations
To participate when required with the management of neonatal referrals and, when necessary, assist the transfers.
To respond to emergencies and initiate appropriate management within agreed protocols, utilizing clinical judgment and diagnostic skills providing appropriate treatment for sick neonates. (Please check JD for further info)
Croydon Health Services provides integrated NHS services to care for people at home, in schools, and health clinics across the borough as well as at Croydon University Hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital.
CUH provides more than 100 specialist services and is home to the borough’s only Emergency Department and 24/7 maternity services, including a labour ward, midwifery-led birth centre and the Crocus home birthing team.
Purley War Memorial Hospital (PWMH) in the south of the borough offers outpatient care, including diagnostic services, physiotherapy and ophthalmology services run by Moorfields Eye Hospital, alongside an onsite GP surgery.
Our experienced district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons look after for people of all ages across Croydon and our Children’s Hospital at Home cares for children with long-term conditions without them having to come to hospital.
