Band 7 Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Urology)
The trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner will develop generic and specialist knowledge and skills in Urology to provide healthcare autonomously and within a multidisciplinary team with a focus on Urology through an established ACP training pathway.
The post holder will be a 1 st level registered practitioner. You will have experience in working within your specialty or an equivalent setting. You will have excellent communication skills, and be able to liaise with patients and their families in planning their healthcare needs. You will be expected to provide evidence of their ongoing continuing professional development.
Whilst in training the tACP will undertake the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. As well as the academic pathway the tACP will follow the three year consultant-supported ACP training program mapped against established local, national and regional competencies.
The tACP will gain the skills & knowledge under direct consultant supervision to undertake clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with undiagnosed and undifferentiated conditions.
The tACP will develop advanced skills in clinical decision making, critical thinking, and clinical management skills based upon evidence based practice within their agreed level of specialty competencies.
The tACP will be responsible for the Urology Rapid Access Clinic, assessing and implementing urological care and coordinating the diagnostic pathway for same day emergency care. Acting as a clinical role model, delivering consistently high standards of care which are responsive to the needs of service provision and patients.
The tACP will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of physiology and pathophysiology in a range of clinical conditions and disease processes (Urology) in order to plan and manage episodes of care from admission to discharge, utilising the multi-professional team.
The tACP will apply comprehensive knowledge, clinical reasoning and decision-making skills to instigate, evaluate and interpret pertinent investigations. Initiate appropriate pharmacological therapies applying critical knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and polypharmacy.
In addition to URAC, the tACP will facilitate outpatient clinical activity including flexible cystoscopy clinics, TP biopsy clinics, Urodynamics and Andrology.
The Urology department is an innovative multi-professional team who are committed to delivering excellent patient care.
We are a very active research department who have gained University Accreditation and have dedicated research nurses embedded in practice.
It is an exciting time to join the service as we expand our current outpatient department and move to a purpose built Urology Outpatient Unit on site at RBH.
