Description:

Your role at St John of God Midland Hospital
In this role, you will be responsible for providing clinical and operational leadership to the allied health directorate at St John of God Midland Public & Private Hospitals (SJGMPPH). This includes an exciting opportunity to be part of new private hospital development. You will contribute to decision making on whole of service issues, including the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans to ensure the provision of personalised, safe, effective and timely care for all patients/families. You will collaborate with the Chief Allied Health Officer & Director of Corporate & Outpatient Services on matters relating to the development and evaluation of allied health practice and standards of care.

The Position

  • Participate in a continuous process to monitor, evaluate and develop services and performance of the directorate.
  • Lead initiatives to improve the quality of patient care in line with Hospital-wide priorities and to minimise adverse events.
  • In partnership with the Chief Allied Health Officer & Director of Corporate & Outpatient Services leads the delivery of and ensures the allied health directorate meets and exceeds all national and state safety, quality and performance targets and standards.
  • In partnership with the Chief Allied Health Officer & Director of Corporate & Outpatient Services, leads the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans for the allied health directorate in alignment with the vision and operational imperatives of the hospital.
  • Lead and manage the allied health services to deliver evidence based care to achieve optimal patient outcomes within allocated resources.
  • Provides clinical leadership to ensure consistent high standards of allied health practice in a patient centred environment.
  • Participates in the planning and development of business cases and the assessment of new clinical services and technologies.
  • Ensures efficient use of human and physical resources so that the directorate operates within the allocated clinical, financial and facility resources.
  • Monitor key performance and financial indicators and takes appropriate action to address variances.
  • Oversee development of effective allied health staffing models and rostering arrangements within the directorate.
  • Promotes an interdisciplinary team environment with a focus on leadership development across the directorate and ensures multidisciplinary team meetings are a cornerstone of patient management.
  • Coordinates the development, implementation and management of an effective and integrated allied health workforce.
  • Leads initiatives to improve the quality of patient care in line with Hospital wide priorities and to minimise adverse events and mitigate clinical risks.
  • Actively addresses significant clinical risks and uses a risk analysis to prioritise safety and quality initiatives.
  • Leads initiatives to address the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. This may include participating in the development, implementation, reporting and monitoring of quality assurance measures and activities.
  • Use advanced clinical knowledge and experience to develop, evaluate and improve allied health services and to assist the various allied health professionals to develop services.
  • In partnership with nursing, medical leaders and the executive, contribute to hospital wide length of stay improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for allied health’s continuous improvement with regards to hospital diversion, length of stay management and early supported discharge.

Position Requirements
You will hold a relevant tertiary qualification in an Allied Health discipline and registration or membership with the relevant Board or Association as required with extensive contemporary management and leadership experience in a senior Allied Health position in an acute care environment. Ability to build strong working relationships with allied health teams, nurses, medical practitioners and other key stakeholders is vital.
In this position you will hold the demonstrated ability to foster a positive service orientated culture that encourages sound patient care and stewardship, focusing on innovation and productivity improvements. You will have a demonstrated understanding and application of best practice Human Resources principles and systems including performance management. Experience in setting, monitoring and meeting budgeted financial and annual operational targets and benchmarks including operational and strategic planning experience is essential.
