What You’ll Be Doing
CIBC Capital Markets provides corporate, government, and institutional clients with innovative solutions to help them raise capital, and grow and invest actively throughout North America, Latin America, and key financial centres around the world. Our mission is to bring Canadian Capital Markets products to Canada and the rest of the world, and also bring the world to Canada.
CIBC Capital Markets, Global Investment Banking provides equity and debt underwriting as well as corporate finance advisory services to corporations. CIBC’s Investment Banking group of professionals are dedicated specifically to advising clients on mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, hostile takeovers, buyouts, takeover defense and restructurings. There is an extensive amount of interaction with other groups within the firm in order to provide clients with customized financing and advisory solutions.
The role of an Analyst within CIBC’s Diversified and Mining Investment Banking group is challenging and fast-paced. It requires dedication, a passion for excellence, and an exceptional work ethic.
The primary roles and responsibilities for this Analyst position include generating corporate finance analytics, developing complex financial models, research, preparing client deliverables and generally supporting all professionals in business development and transaction execution activities.

Base Pay scale: $100,000

How You’ll Succeed

  • Client proposals - Assist in developing proposals to clients and potential clients for equity and debt placements, mergers, asset or company divestitures or acquisitions, and other financial products and advisory services
  • Industry research - Conduct industry research and analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of investment banking business opportunities
  • Financial modeling - Develop and audit sophisticated financial models
  • Analysis - Prepare industry and financial analysis to determine client recommendations. Participate in cross functional teams and liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in executing mandates or preparing proposals for clients. Lead industry comparable value and precedent transaction analyses
  • Due diligence - Assist in company due diligence investigations
  • Offering - Prepare offering memoranda and marketing materials and assist with prospectus drafting

Who You Are

  • You are goal oriented. Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming high levels of responsibility within short time frames. Success to you is helping solve and execute on the complex financial and strategic needs of our clients.
  • You’ve completed an undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Computer Science or Economics. Completion of and/or intention to complete a CA or CFA, is beneficial. Applicants must submit a cover letter and transcript along with their resume.
  • You possess relevant industry experience. 1-5 years of previous experience in one or more of investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, or deal advisory is preferred. Experience with meaningful financial modeling and analysis is required.
  • You’ve attained advanced financial skills. Excellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices, including cash flow and returns analyses. Knowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinations.
  • You’re technical savvy (Programs, Methodologies, Systems). Strong quantitative technical skills as it relates to basic computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), industry technology (FactSet, Bloomberg) and other applicable software.
  • You’re motivated by collective success. Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills in order to develop, manage and leverage relationships with clients, and internal and/or external business partners. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas related to complex technical and conceptual issues. Unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation and proven ability to exercise strong independent judgment when making business decisions and/or representing CIBC Capital Markets.
