Location
This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of City Hall, 426 Brant Street, Burlington Ontario. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.
Position Overview
This position is primarily responsible for researching, identifying, and helping secure grant/funding opportunities for identified strategi priorities and projects. The role will co-coordinate and support the grant application process which includes coordination with internal and external partners regarding application completion and submission, progress reporting and monitoring, agreement review and execution for approved application and reporting an application status. In addition, this position will be providing support to the primary Government Relations position ensuring continuity of service for key areas within government relations.
Responsibilities

This position will be responsible to:

  • Lead and oversee the City’s grant program, seeking funding to support accomplishing City initiatives and priorities.
  • Monitor funding opportunities to identify those with greatest impact on City’s strategic objectives and priorities.
  • Maintain database/summary report of grant funded opportunities and projects and used to report to senior management and Council.
  • Coordinate the review of any required transfer payment agreements, and prepare any additional staff reports/council approvals for approved applications.
  • Provide guidance and support on any required communications/announcements outlined in the transfer payment agreement to communications staff, project department staff, offices of MPs and/or MPPS, ministerial staff or funding agency staff.
  • Maintain relationships with provincial and federal partners funding agencies and other third-party funders.
  • Under the direction of the Corporate Strategic Lead, Government Relations: assist in advocacy opportunities that are in keeping with the City’s strategic plan Vision 2040 and From Vision to Focus
  • Action strategies to assist with the preparation of resolutions, reports, letters, delegation meetings, pre-budget submissions and required briefing notes or background/research materials, assist in the research to contribute to the City’s response to provincial and federal consultations.
  • Assist in the research to contribute to the City’s response to provincial and federal consultations; provide support in the preparation of advocacy materials for delegation meetings at the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference.
  • Support the provision of strategic information and advice to Council and City leadership on the latest legislative and policy and issues through research and monitoring.
  • Assist in the research required to provide analysis of emerging legislative and policy developments to Council and City leadership.

Requirements
Applicants require a University Degree with an emphasis on Communications, Political Science or Public Administration. Applicants will also require four (4) to seven (7) years of experience in Government Relations.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of grant funding in alignment with strong research skills. They will also have knowledge of corporate structure with the ability to foster relationships in a collaborative setting.
