Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING | NGĀ WHĀINGA MATUA

You will be assisting our Cereal and Services Breeding team with a variety of field operations, and on any given day this may include:

  • Crop inventory management, organization and record keeping.
  • Seed preparation, conditioning, packaging, and field maintenance
  • Crop agronomy assessments.
  • Contributing to planning activities for casual staff during critical crops’ stages
  • Layout and preparation of field nurseries
  • Preparation of seeds for export and receiving of imported material for overseas cereal breeding clients
  • Operating and using modern farm machinery during planting and harvest, and safely maintaining machinery and science equipment.

You will be a customer-focused person who loves to work outside and enjoys interacting with a wide range of people. Your helpful manner and commitment to doing a great job will ensure you build positive relationships with Science staff, contractors and external clients and visitors. You may have:

  • A qualification in agriculture or horticulture, or equivalent experience in crop / farm operations
  • Confident at operating a wide range of field machinery using heavy farm equipment, e.g. tractors, trailers, seed drill, etc on site training will be available
  • Able to perform tasks that are physically demanding such as heavy lifting, manual handling, repetitive movements.
  • Willing to work longer hours and weekends during peak periods such as sowing and harvest.
  • Current full driver’s license essential, with HT an advantage.
  • Respect for fellow workers, follow all health and safety SOP’
