We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Application Developer at Perth Head Office, on a Full-Time Permanent basis.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, related discipline and / or extensive and demonstrated practical expertise knowledge and industry experience
  • Relevant ICT certification such as ITIL Foundations
  • A minimum of five (5) or more years in ICT with a minimum of three (3) years of direct experience developing applications
  • Experience in agile SCRUM development, continuous deployment and automated unit and functional testing
  • Ability to identify, manage and escalate risks and issues
  • Understanding of infrastructure design
  • Solid database knowledge
  • Ability to prioritise work and critically assess own performance
  • Confidence and ability to speak in public forums and ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel
  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills, able to facilitate collaboration between stakeholders with differing opinions
  • Prior experience interviewing end-users for insight on functionality, interface, problems and / or usability issues
  • Strong team player and experience of working with external service providers
  • Ability to work without supervision to meet deadlines
  • Understanding of security standards such as WS Security, Digital Certificates, SSL etc.

Responsibilities:

As the Application Developer, you will be responsible for providing technical guidance / expertise to external service providers that are performing application development activities on programs and projects and reviewing the quality of their outputs to drive better business outcomes
The role will involve contributing towards the building and testing of Western Power’s ICT applications and associated integration, while maintaining up to date professional knowledge of current and emerging technology. Integration design will be required to allow others to build required integration components.

The role performs software development on programs and projects working to an ITIL framework for the benefit of the business.

  • Utilise Western Power’s processes, standards and tools to achieve well-engineered results, perform self-review of own outputs and quality assurance on the work of others, including external service providers
  • Maintain consistency of development technologies and frameworks utilised by internal and external development teams in accordance with Western Power’s strategic technology landscape
  • Design, code, test and document ICT applications and integration, based on specifications from the business, and ensure appropriate linkages to existing applications and other data processing systems, while abiding by Western Power security standards
  • Prepare documentation in support of application and integration components that are developed as part of overall solutions on Western Power’s programs and projects
  • Develop application and integration components using Test Driven Development (TDD), maintaining test coverage expectations
  • Contribute to automated functional tests for newly created application and integration components to Western Power’s acceptable quality assurance levels
  • Assist Service Management & Support to resolve incidents and investigate root causes (problem management) for ICT applications and integration, where required
  • Develop and improve own personal effectiveness, while sharing technical knowledge and information with other developers and external suppliers
  • May mentor and provide support to other internal and external developers in good practices for application design, programming and testing
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation within the team
