JOB SUMMARY:

Support the Trane field sales organization, and their customers, in applying Trane equipment and controls into HVAC systems that meet the customer’s desired performance while helping Trane acquire business. Use technical knowledge acquired through field and customer support, individual study, research, professional relationships, and field experience to positively influence company activity and industry practices in technically sound ways that are beneficial to the company. This is done through direct support, presentations, and by authoring company and industry publications. This is a REMOTE position.

Core responsibilities:

  • Support Trane’s field sales organization, and their customers, by responding to inquiries via telephone and e-mail, and by participating in customer visits and design days.
  • Provide system-related technical support in pursuit of Trane business, including participation on strategic job acquisition teams.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations for customers and industry association events, including the Trane’s Engineers Newsletter Live program series.
  • Author technical articles, papers, and manuals for publication in industry publications (e.g. ASHRAE Journal) or as part of Trane’s technical publications offering (e.g., Engineers Newsletters, Application Engineering manuals).
  • Research technical issues to grow Trane’s knowledge base in key areas relating to HVAC systems. This involves individual analysis, consultation with other industry experts, and publication research.

Extended responsibilities with experience:

  • Consult with Trane engineering, systems development, product management, and marketing on key product and system design requirements and issues.
  • Review literature, technical papers, articles and other collateral (both internal and external) to ensure technical accuracy.
  • Serve in industry associations, such as ASHRAE to grow knowledge base and industry influence.
  • Position requires some independent travel, primarily in North America.

Qualifications:

  • Must have strong technical skills with a natural technical curiosity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and minimum two years of HVAC related experience required -or-
  • Bachelor’s degree in math or science and minimum four years of HVAC related experience required.
  • Knowledge of HVAC products, components, and systems required.
  • Must have good writing and oral communication skills, and ability to effectively identify key ideas and develop organized content to share and educate customers and internal associates.
  • Good presentation skills in front of customers and the field required.
  • Proficiency in MicroSoft® Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
  • Hydronic or airside systems background preferred.
  • Prior involvement in industry and environmental associations (such as ASHRAE, USGBC, AHRI, ASHE or AEE) a plus.
  • Consulting engineering experience a plus.
