Description:

The Applications Scientist, Commercial Applications APAC is a majority lab-based role supporting key strategic customer accounts, both pre-sales and post-sales, with specialized sequencing projects to demonstrate the value of the Oxford Nanopore sequencing platform for specific applications. The projects are driven by customers in collaboration with commercial teams, and encompass a wide range of sequencing approaches, specifically tailored to individual samples and customer goals. The successful candidate will be able to prioritize projects across the entire spectrum of customers, achieve technical expertise in library preparation and sequencing of many different types of samples, and provide feedback and support for bioinformatics analysis of the resulting datasets. Additionally, the Applications Scientist, Commercial Applications APAC will be a valuable contributor for deliverables back to the customers, alongside the commercial teams

REQUIREMENTS

• Hands on experience with next generation sequencing
• Successful experimental research from the initial concept to execution, analysis and presentation of important biological questions
• Lab based projects or relevant lab based work experience
• Knowledge of molecular biological and sequencing techniques
• Up to date on latest literature about NGS sample and library preparations and NGS applications
• Highly skilled in all aspects of sample and library preparation and QC including, DNA and RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, DNA and RNA manipulation, and PCR and qPCR
• Basic understanding of nucleic acid structure and function
• Creative, ambitious, can-do attitude, and ability to calmly take charge in stressful or fast pace situations.
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Enthusiastic, intelligent and positive, with good problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• PhD or MSc Biology/Molecular Biology/biotechnology with relevant working experience

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Generating laboratory and sequence data from a wide range of samples, in collaboration with external scientists and internal cross-functional commercial teams
• Sample processing and tracking, DNA/ RNA extraction, sample purification and QC, sequencing library preparation
• Shipping, receiving, tracking, and maintenance of customer samples
• Communication with Apps and commercial teams to provide support on high value customer projects
• Working closely with bioinformaticians within Apps and externally to provide required sequencing data following a defined experimental design
• Preparation and communication of sequencing reports, presentations and results
• Maintenance of lab supplies, kits, flow cells, and common reagent stocks
• Maintains EHS and hazardous waste documentation as appropriate
• Keeps meticulous lab records and documentation of experimental results
• Prioritizes projects based on impact and timelines
• Helps to set overall project goals and expectations
• Organizes and tracks internal and external laboratory samples, including necessary metadata and relevant info
• Possesses a high degree of ownership, independence, and accountability for projects

DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

• Provide laboratory support to enable users to sequence and analyze their samples on Oxford Nanopore devices using Nanopore protocols
• Execute projects for new customer acquisition in collaboration with sales team
• Assist projects and product customer data in support of Oxford Nanopore KOLs
• Execute laboratory workflows for customer samples, including samples and projects that have been unsuccessful through standard channels
• Diagnose and troubleshoot issues relating to turnaround time, sample multiplexing, sequencing performance including accuracy and output
• Evaluating performance of Oxford Nanopore products and workflows
• Consulting and providing advice on selection of sequencing kits, library preparation reagents, flow cells, and sequencing strategy for a given set of samples
• Staying up to date with new releases of Oxford Nanopore products and protocols
• Support projects in all customer focus areas including metagenomics, human disease diagnostics, clinical and pre-clinical whole genome sequencing workflows
• Basic bioinformatic analysis of the data generated
• Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including apps and commercial teams
• Prepare deliverables and generate content from insights gained during specific projects, providing feedback both internally and externally
• Working with customers to follow samples all the way through project life cycle
• Any other duties as might be required within the remit and responsibilities of the post.
