West Cork Distillers was founded in 2003 by John O’Connell, Denis McCarthy and Ger McCarthy and has since grown to a team of over 150 people based in our distillery in Skibbereen, Co. Cork. We are built on an entrepreneurial energy and a passion for the science and art of spirit and whiskey production.
We have been recognised for our innovative approach, and credited with maturing, distilling and bottling some of the finest craft Irish Whiskey on the global market today.
We have an exiting opportunity for an apprentice automation and maintenance fitter to join our team. This is an fantastic opportunity to build a long and rewarding career with the distillery.
The cost of your apprenticeship will be covered in full by West Cork Distillers. Your starting salary will align with the living wage and will increase year on year as you progress through the apprenticeship programme.
Once you are fully qualified you will be able to:
- Work with drilling and milling machines and welding plants
- Work with a variety of specialised tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders
- Install, service, maintain, and rectify faults of machine tools, power and production equipment
- Dismantle, repair or make and fit new parts when performing plant maintenance
- Monitor conditions using modern maintenance techniques
- Write reports of completed repairs
- Interpret technical drawings and diagrams
Responsibilities:
Working as a mechanical automation and maintenance fitter your role will include:
- Plant and machinery installation
- Maintenance and repairs
- Replacement of broken or working parts
- Adjustment; servicing and checking components
- Equipment component replacement
- Fabricate parts using machine tools
Once you are fully qualified you will be able to:
- Work with drilling and milling machines and welding plants
- Work with a variety of specialised tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders
- Install, service, maintain, and rectify faults of machine tools, power and production equipment
- Dismantle, repair or make and fit new parts when performing plant maintenance
- Monitor conditions using modern maintenance techniques
- Write reports of completed repairs
- Interpret technical drawings and diagrams.
The apprenticeship is a four year programme consisting of 7 phases, 4 on the job phases and 3 off the job phases in a training facility.
