CAREER OPPORTUNITY

We are currently seeking Apprentices - Signal Technician. This is a 40 hour work week involving rotating shifts with various off days.

WHAT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING?

  • Requires training normally obtained through completion of a Community College graduation diploma in the field of Electrical, Electronics, Electro-Mechanical, and/or Computer Technology, or its equivalent
  • Must pass a TTC electrical aptitude test
  • Must possess a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario class G driver’s license
  • You must attend and successfully complete various in-house TTC training programs for the operation of a TTC vehicle, C.P.R., W.H.M.I.S, and Subway/SRT Rule Book training
  • Railway signalling experience and a strong mechanical background is an asset
  • The above training and standard T.T.C. tests will normally be carried out during the Apprenticeship period
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.

Responsibilities:

  • As an apprentice, you will follow a training program involving progressively more complex work performed on a variety of electrical, mechanical, electronic and communication based train control computerized signal and train control equipment used to monitor and control subway and SRT vehicles on the main lines and in the yards
  • The work is performed in accordance with detailed schedules and ranges from mechanical preventative maintenance functions to highly complex testing and troubleshooting, requiring knowledge of logic symbols, binary code, solid state circuits and the utilization of sophisticated diagnostic equipment and software, diagnostic programming methods and data communication decoding
  • The work also involves the installation, modification, repair and diagnosis of a wide range of signalling equipment including track switches, trainstops, wayside signals and automatic train control equipment
  • As an apprentice, you will accompany the Signal Technicians, Grade 1 to respond to trouble calls and you may be required to work under emergency conditions in varying weather conditions where repairs must be made quickly to avoid extended service delays
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers and/or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.
