Description:

Our Medical Same Day Emergency Care (MSDEC) department is an acute area which provides specialised acute service to treat those with varying medical conditions.
Do not apply for this role if you already hold the Business Administrator Level 3 qualification/award (NVQ or Standard) or equivalent.
This apprenticeship position offers long term employment following successful completion of the apprenticeship programme. During the apprenticeship you will work towards achieving the competencies of the personal specification (attached) whilst working in the role. Training will be provided weekly, by our in-house team of tutors and trainers (within contracted working hours).
Apprenticeship entry requirements: Before reaching end point assessment, you will be required to achieve level 2 functional skills English and Math, or equivalent (if not already achieved, classroom learning will be provided). Please ensure you include English and Maths qualifications on your application form - if not you may not be shortlisted.

1. To undertake receptionist duties for all visitors entering the ward /clinic
environment in accordance with the visiting policy and security systems.
2. To maintain a complete case note record for each patient on the ward
/clinic according to health care records procedure.
3. To verify, amend and add relevant information to the daily bed return and update MEDWAY/PIMS and other patient registration systems, including
admission, discharge and transfer. To complete and keep up to date the
admissions book.
4. To use all functionality available within the Patient Information
Management System (e.g. PIMS/MEDWAY and any other patient
registration system) including, patient registration, results reporting and
case note tracking, etc.
5. To make arrangements and to complete procedures associated with the
discharge and transfer of patients. To arrange x-rays, tests, follow-up
appointments, ambulance transport and collection of medicines on
discharge as requested by clinical staff.
6. To receive requests for future possible admissions and confer with nursing staff/bed management as appropriate.
We are moving into our new acute hospital “The Midland Metropolitan University Hospital” in 2024 the new acute hospital in Grove Lane, Smethwick will bring together all acute services onto one site. The single-site acute hospital will benefit from co-located specialist services with SDEC holding a large footprint of 24 Trollies spaces and 30 chairs which will support the new Emergency Department with dedicated imaging facility and assessment units. It will provide state-of-the-art treatment for patients from Sandwell and across the region.
