    The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) exists to meet the Nation’s commitment to care for our veteran and defence service community—the men and women who have served Australia in times of war and conflict as well as peacetime. We do this through programs of care, compensation, commemoration, income support and Defence support services. Our aim is to ensure enhanced self-sufficiency, quality of life, financial wellbeing and community recognition for those we support.
    This recruitment process is being used to fill immediate and anticipated ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies for APS4 Claims Support Officer roles within Incapacity, Special Rate Disability Pension (SRDP), Combined Benefits and Permanent Impairment teams of the Processing Branch.
    The Processing Branch plays a vital role in the comprehensive assessments and determinations for both liability claims and claims concerning incapacity, SRDP and permanent impairment payments. These claims are submitted by ADF and ex members who suffer mental or physical injury, illness or disease as a result of service.

Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for initiating and commencing the claims process in line with applicable policy and legislation
  • Assist Claims Delegates with tasks relevant to ongoing claims. This may include; requesting medical reports and clinical notes, liaising with medical providers, maintaining contact with veterans and their representatives and analysing and advising delegates of trends and discrepancies
  • Engage in and deliver excellent client and stakeholder service including managing initial phone and email contact and arranging appointments to open claims and respond to queries
  • Attention to detail in the management of clients’ claims including appropriate archiving, accurate record-keeping and monitoring of the claim progress
  • Conduct information gathering after liaising with the Claims Delegate and providing considered updates to the Claims Delegate
  • Action and update tasks for information requested and provided
  • Monitoring and management of electronic communications including emails and the group email box
  • Identifies issues and problems that may impact on own work objectives and propose ways forward to resolve
  • Gathering statistics for Team Leader/Manager
  • Undertake additional duties as directed.
