Position Summary
We are seeking talented and enthusiastic Data and Information Analysts and Data Project Officers to

perform, in accordance with the APS 5 work level standards, the following functions:

  • Working with data and large databases, including data management, validation and processing
  • Undertaking research and statistical analysis and interpretation of data
  • Designing, researching, analysing, and presenting information in various formats
  • Data system administration including data governance, testing, output vetting and releasing of data

Under general direction, these roles may also include:

  • planning, organising, and managing projects
  • manipulating, interrogating and managing databases using a range of software (including SAS,

Python, SQL, R, and other software)

  • liaising and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders including government agencies, State

and local authorities, and business or community organisations.
The successful applicants will possess an understanding of and skills in, or aptitude for, statistical and
research project work in a range of subject areas. They will also possess strong verbal and written
communication skills, and sound organisational skills.
We encourage applicants from a wide range of disciplines. This may include (but is not limited to) those with
qualifications or relevant work experience in statistics, epidemiology, demography, science communication
and journalism, database administration, data science, health informatics, economics, actuarial studies,
accounting, health sciences, social sciences, data mining, predictive modelling or geospatial/GIS (geographic
information system) mapping.
Selection Criteria
Our ideal candidate will have most or all of the following skills and knowledge:
1. Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to investigate and interrogate
data, and develop, securely maintain and manage, and manipulate administrative and other data
sets.
2. Well-developed research and writing skills, including the ability to synthesise information from a
range of sources to produce high quality written work in a range of formats (e.g., print, web, and data
visualisations, business cases, secretariat functions).
3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work within, and contribute
to, a team.
4. Sound organisational skills, including the demonstrated ability to determine priorities, manage
projects and workflows, and meet deadlines.
5. Experience with statistical programming, or the management and administration of data systems,
using a range of software, including SAS, Python, SQL, R, or other relevant software .
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant data, health, or welfare discipline, or previous experience in a role
involving data management and development, collation, or research analysis and reporting will be highly
regarded.
