About the Organisation
Randstad is currently seeking an experienced and motivated APS6 Assistant Finance Accountant to join our dynamic team within the Federal Government. As an APS6 Assistant Finance Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the financial management activities of our organization. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for assisting with complex financial accounting tasks, providing guidance on technical accounting issues, and ensuring compliance with government financial standards.
Note: Due to the nature of work, you MUST be a permanent employee at an APS6 level within the federal government ( This opportunity only offers S26 option )
Your new role
The successful Finance Accountant is accountable under general direction to undertake moderately complex finance related activities and tasks within established procedures and guidance.

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to

  • Accurately complete assigned tasks within specified time-frames and quality standards.
  • Assist in planning and managing complex financial activities, including balance sheet management and financial statement analysis.
  • Provide clear guidance to stakeholders on technical accounting matters.
  • Conduct objective financial analysis and draw accurate conclusions based on evidence.
  • Contribute to the development of financial policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate processes for compliance with financial regulations.
  • Coordinate and provide advice on external accounting requirements.

Who We’re Looking For:

We are seeking a dynamic individual with a strong background in financial accounting. The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • Strong financial accounting skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial reporting and budget management.
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth budget frameworks and accounting standards.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex accounting issues.

What you’ll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or equivalent academic specialization are highly desirable. Also, the experience to work on SAP, TEchOne and Treasury systems.
To be successful in this role you must be an Australian Citizen and have relevant experience in Government Department and / or in a similar position. You must have a minimum of an active Baseline clearance.
