About the role
The APS6 Copy Editor and Technical Writer is accountable under limited direction to undertake complex work that is guided by legislation, policies, procedures, standards, methodologies and precedents. The position has reasonable autonomy and accountability to exercise both initiative and judgement to interpret legislation and policy, in the application of practices and procedures to achieve outcomes within the functions.
The APS6 Copy Editor and Technical Writer is required to provide detailed technical, professional, policy, operational support and advice in relation to complex problems. Where required, the role will coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, program and project management and policy development that support the Departments objectives.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Copy editing and proofreading corporate documents in line with the Australian Government Style Manual and internal style guides and standards, ensuring content accuracy and writing style consistency.
  • Overseeing quality assurance of corporate documents ensuring they follow the department’s standards for accuracy, clarity and consistency.
  • Working with subject matter experts and project managers to create accurate and consistent content to meet the expectations of intended audiences.
  • Conducting internal research to articulate business objectives through corporate reporting document narratives.
  • Identifying opportunities to drive the adoption of new processes focused on continuous improvement of consistency and accuracy in corporate writing.
  • Creating and updating technical guidance documents, procedural guides, project plans and governance frameworks.
  • Regularly conducting reviews and evaluation of published content to ensure relevancy.
  • Creating communication materials focusing on user experience, ensuring that complex department information is presented and meets plain English and accessibility guidelines for diverse audiences.
  • Assisting in the management of reports processes and communications outputs.

To be successful in this role you must hold:

  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications
  • Public sector experience is preferred.
  • An Australian Citizenship
