Job Posting: Accounts Receivable Accountant

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Compensation: $65K-70K annually depending on experience, plus benefits and Pension Plans.
Program & Location: Hybrid work. While some hours in our Gastown office are required, working from home is an option.

About the Job:
The Intermediate Accountant plays an essential role in growing talent in our business through collaboration and sharing best practices with the Finance team. You know how to be curious about opportunities, and how to be real with feedback and support for each business unit you support.
About You:

We are looking for a talented individual with a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and efficient data processing abilities to join our collaborative team at Atira. Our ideal candidate will have a passion for navigating complex information and ensuring the utmost accuracy in all Finance-related duties. Reporting to the Manager, Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable, the Intermediate Accountant will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Oversees Funding Agreements with BC Housing, recording of revenue on an accrual basis.
  • Record and Reconcile Inter-company transactions for multiple entities.
  • Reconciliations of credit cards, bank accounts and balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepares GST claims on a monthly/semi-annual basis as required.
  • Posts monthly entries as prepared/approved by CFO.
  • Assists with project analysis and support, review of accounting records and financial reports, and preparation for annual audits.
  • Assists in the production of monthly and quarterly interim financial statements, reports, and estimates in accordance with prescribed procedures, including variance reports.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by the Assistant Controller.
  • Complete bank reconciliations for complex, high-volume bank accounts.
  • Assist with preparing responses to internal and external auditors.
  • Ensure adequacy of controls to confirm accuracy, timeliness, and authorization, updating as business requirements evolve.
  • Improve processes to enhance accuracy, efficiency, controls.
  • Coordinate the month end close, including process improvement recommendations.
  • Assist with filing the annual charity returns with CRA.
  • Manage the payment of property tax/filing vacancy declarations.

Qualifications:

  • Accounting Certificate or Diploma
  • Bachelor of Accounting is an asset.
  • 3 years of experience in an accounting role within a professional organization.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of using various accounting systems.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and Accounting Systems.
