POSITION TITLE: Staff Associate, Art Gallery
DEPARTMENT: Arts and Humanities, Grimshaw-Gudewicz Art Gallery
PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River
REPORTS TO: Director of Art Gallery
POSITION STATUS: This is a part-time, grant-funded, non-unit position with no benefits, 15 hours per-week. This position may be subject to grant appropriations.
SALARY: $25.00 an hour

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts or equivalent work experience with an emphasis in Graphic Design and Studio Art*.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional design experience*.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience shall be considered.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer graphic design software applications, including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Demonstrated experience in utilizing programs such as Final Cut Pro and other software such as Garage Band and/or Audacity.
  • Portfolio should reflect both finished pieces and process work with an emphasis on digital and multi-media design.
  • Demonstrated experience in website maintenance.
  • Self-motivated individual who is willing to take on new projects, and understands social media engagement to extend the reach of the gallery to online audiences.
  • Good interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, ability to work with the public and other artists.
  • Familiarity with using hand tools and small power tools.
  • Must be able to work on a ladder and be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work with outside printing vendors/research, work within budgets.
  • The ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol’s core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and develop graphic design projects such as postcards, posters, and handouts that promote and publicize gallery activities and events.
  • Website development and maintenance.
  • Create and design products that extend the gallery’s reach to online audiences.
  • Prep digital media for inclusion in exhibitions.
  • Visitor services which include gallery sitting, greeting the public, and monitoring gallery exhibitions.
  • The person will work directly with various artists on certain installation projects.
  • Must be able to participate as required with events such as opening receptions, assistance with taking down exhibitions, repair and repainting of gallery walls, and delivery and installation of works.
