Description:

The National Judicial Institute (NJI) is an independent, bilingual, not‐for‐profit organization, based in Ottawa and Montreal, with a mandate to coordinate and deliver educational programming to members of the judiciary across Canada.
Internally, a team of lawyers assists judicial education planning committees on matters of content and pedagogical design, while meeting professionals coordinate all logistical aspects of the programs. As part of its curriculum, the NJI offers over 70 judicial education programs each year. In addition, the Institute provides a number of educational resources to members of the judiciary, such as Judicial Education Guides, Electronic Bench Books, hard‐copy publications, educational modules to assist in program design, and an online judicial library.
The NJI is searching for an Articling Student to fulfill a ten (10) month, full-time contract beginning in Summer 2025, based in Ottawa.
Responsibilities
As a member of the Education department, your job duties will consist of the following:
1. Work with Counsel and members of the program delivery team to ensure cohesion between logistical planning processes and program content and delivery;
2. Provide assistance at judicial education conferences/seminars at different locations across Canada;
3. Research legal issues relating to judicial education and delivering results in a clear, concise manner;
4. Draft input for education materials, as requested; and
5. Assist Counsel with understanding the learning needs of the judiciary and respond to education requests in collaboration with the Chief Judicial Officer, the In-Person Education Department, and Digital Education Department.
Qualifications
Essential
1. Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.);
2. Proficient computer skills including, but not limited to Office 365; and
3. Ability to research legal databases such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, and CanLII.
While not essential, these qualifications would also be of benefit:
1. Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.) or Licentiate of Laws (LL.L);
2. Experience working in a not-for-profit organization; and
3. Fluently bilingual in French and English (Reading, Writing and Oral).

Annual salary: $56,702.
