Education:

  • Undergraduate university degree in fine arts, with a specialization in photograph

Experience:

  • 2 years’ work experience providing technical assistance in an art gallery, and photo documentation and darkroom studio maintenance

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Knowledge of photography techniques, materials and equipment
  • Knowledge of chemicals used in a darkroom and proper disposal
  • Knowledge of University health and safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and certified training on scissor lift
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom
  • Knowledge of photography lighting techniques and use of light kits
  • General knowledge of power hand tools
  • Knowledge of digital video installation setups
  • Knowledge of digital photography documentation techniques
  • Ability to follow processes with high attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a group situation
  • Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and follow through on work assignments
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with faculty, staff and students

Responsibilities:

The Artlab Preparator/Photo Technician has two areas of responsibility. First, working under the direction of the ArtLab Manager in the ArtLab and Concourse Gallery on the preparation, installation, photographing, archiving and striking of exhibitions throughout the Fall, Winter and Summer terms of the academic year. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining operations in the darkroom studio, ensuring that procedures are carried out safely, equipment is maintained, and graduate students and faculty members are provided with technical assistance in both analog and digital environments.
