Description:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in veterinary technology.
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in an animal research facility.
  • Able to transport a variety of laboratory species and supplies weighing from 70g to 100 lbs.
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays and emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of the regulations and standards governing the care and use of research animals.
  • Must possess the skills and abilities required for providing for the proper husbandry, health and medical care and use of animal species commonly used in biomedical research.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used in biomedical research.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment used in animal research.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Familiar with using a PC for word processing, database and spreadsheet applications.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Laboratory Animal Technologist certification.

ALL QUALIFICATIONS

Unless otherwise required by an applicable collective bargaining agreement, all minimum, additional and desired qualifications are preferred, but qualifications, degrees, and/or experience deemed comparable and/or equivalent by Oakland University in its sole and exclusive discretion may be considered.

Responsibilities:

Performs the various tasks required in providing for the proper care and use of laboratory animals and the maintenance of records, facilities and equipment used in the university’s Research Animal Care and Use Program. Provides technical services to support the proper functioning of the program, the Laboratory Animal Management Services department and operations of the Biomedical Research Support Facility. Provides support for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Provides backup to the Animal Research Facility (ARF ) Manager when out of the office. Will manage department staff including daily schedules.
