DESCRIPTION

This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
This is a full-time, two-year renewable position. Salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with the ATS Agreement which also stipulates the benefits.
Location - Work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton.

DEPARTMENT/FACULTY SUMMARY:

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is consistently ranked among the top three schools in Canada, and top 50 globally and has been the only pharmacy school in Alberta since 1914. The province of Alberta offers the most unique pharmacy practice environment in North America where pharmacists can prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, provide injections, and receive remuneration for patient care services.
The Faculty annually admits 140 student pharmacists to the undergraduate pharmacy program and offers a number of post-professional programs. The Faculty also has approximately 60 graduate students on an annual basis.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The individual will have teaching responsibilities in the pharmacy programs, provide service to the Faculty, and University, and may engage in scholarly activities. Clinical practice is encouraged.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A PharmD or BSc Pharm degree is required.
  • The successful candidate will have knowledge of current pharmacy practice.
  • Applicants must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, by the Alberta College of Pharmacy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Completed advanced training in pharmaceutics or experience with pharmaceutical compounding.
  • An advanced degree in pharmacy or pharmaceutical sciences such as a post-baccalaureate PharmD and/or a Masters, PhD, or EdD degree is an asset.
  • Prior experience teaching in a post-secondary setting is an asset.
  • Recent experience in pharmacy practice is an asset.

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching and coordination of courses related to pharmaceutics and pharmacy math, including the compounding skills section of the PharmD program. This involves the development and delivery of course material, student assessment, and ensuring that coursework meets defined educational outcomes and accreditation standards. Compounding skills are an important component in the curriculum, linking to therapeutic modules and clinical placements and providing students with the core patient care skills required for pharmacy practice in Alberta.
