ABOUT US:
Currently celebrating its 150th year, Bennett College is a historically Black liberal arts college for women in Greensboro, NC. With a 7/1 student/faculty ratio, Bennett is an intentional micro-college providing an intimate, engaging learning community that centers on the experiences and achievements of women of color. Bennett College is seeking new faculty who can contribute to the development of innovative and forward-leaning programs and curricula that prepare students for impactful civic engagement and leadership roles in their personal and professional lives. Traditional events and ceremonies throughout the academic year honor the College’s history and contribute to the holistic development of our students as scholars and leaders.
Prospective biology faculty whose work touches on maternal and child health, health disparities, diversifying STEM/healthcare, and environmental justice are especially encouraged to apply.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Full-time non-tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, with the opportunity to move into a tenure-track position. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach courses and the associated labs in at least three of the following areas: general biology, anatomy, physiology, botany, developmental biology, and molecular biology. The teaching load is 12 hours per semester, typically three four-credit courses offered on an innovative and flexible “minimester” schedule. Candidates should have teaching and mentoring experience at the post-secondary level; ideal candidates will also have peer-reviewed publications. Candidates should have a record of success in securing outside funding or be able to demonstrate the potential to do so. M.S. or Ph. D. in biology or a related field is required, Ph. D. is preferred. Candidates with the M.S. only should have research/lab and teaching experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of pedagogical techniques in the biological sciences
- Knowledge of current STEM methods and protocols
- Skills in multiple digital frameworks
- Skills in dissection and molecular biology
- Ability to keep accurate records
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing
- Ability to work cooperatively with all College constituencies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work within a diverse community
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- M.S. or Ph. D. in biology or a related field is required, Ph. D. is preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching at an institution of higher learning
