WORKING FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

The Department of Occupational Therapy in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta is seeking applicants for part-time to full-time Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor positions for the Augustana satellite site of the MScOT program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of four to five years of occupational therapy experience in a variety of practice and/or academic settings, including leadership roles.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience teaching in an academic setting;
  • A demonstrated history of, or commitment to, continuous quality improvement/ engagement in professional teaching development activities, ideally related to teaching and learning;
  • Experience in clinical education coordination or student supervision/mentorship;
  • Capability to oversee research or scholarly capstone projects;
  • Familiarity and comfort with using distance/remote learning technology;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including conflict management skills.

Annual teaching, program delivery, scholarship, and teaching-related service responsibilities are determined in negotiation with the Department Chair, responsive to the person’s strengths and the department’s requirements.

Responsibilities:

In addition to teaching, Teaching Professors are expected to participate in initiatives related to the scholarship of teaching & learning (SoTL) research, to promote scholarship initiatives, and to engage in service activities within the Department and the broader academic and clinical community.

Based in Camrose, Alberta, the positions on offer comprise teaching and teaching-related responsibilities, as well as a teaching-related service component, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Ensure the operational requirements of the MScOT program are met on a day-to-day basis; intervene in a timely and prompt manner in operational and student issues that arise;
  • Primary or Co-Instructor and/or Coordinator for assigned MScOT courses;
  • Primary contact and support for Augustana-based faculty and sessional instructors;
  • Student advisor for the Augustana MScOT students (16 students per cohort);
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff across the Edmonton, Calgary and Augustana program sites, as well as with the Communication Sciences & Disorders and Physical Therapy programs, to ensure equitable quality learning experiences for all students;
  • Contribute to the development, delivery and evaluation of the MScOT program across all sites;
  • Support Augustana-specific scheduling, communications, community activities and external relationships;
  • Support and/or coordinate clinical education activities in Camrose and Central Alberta, including fieldwork preparation seminars, student and preceptor support during placements, and supervision of Independent Community Placements.
  • Work with the Academic Coordinator for Clinical Education and other faculty members to cultivate community relationships and new clinical placements;
  • Participate in Department of Occupational Therapy and Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine Committees as assigned.
