Description:

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

In-depth knowledge of dealership accounting practices and financial reporting.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and internal control principles.
Utmost respect for handling confidential, sensitive information
Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills to evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations on business issues

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience in an accounting oversight role
Previous experience in a dealership environment is desired, but not mandatory
Previous experience using a Dealer Management Software (DMS) like PBS, Reynolds.
Pursuing accounting designation strongly preferred (ie: CPA)
Undergraduate degree in business, accounting, and/or financ

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Controller/Office Manager has a wide variety of responsibilities, including but not exclusive to:

  • Overlook and assist the Accounting department/team (Sales Deal Administrators and AP/AR Clerk), ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely, accurate manner
  • Manage relationship with various suppliers and vendors
  • Reconcile bank accounts and assist in cash flow management
  • Maintain the general ledger
  • Monthly reconciliation of the balance sheet accounts, including but not limited to payables, receivables, accruals, inventory and capital assets
  • Maintain and enhance system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Calculate variances from the budget/forecast/prior years and report significant issues to management
  • Provide financial analyses as needed on variances
  • Remit all local, provincial and federal government reporting requirements (ie: luxury tax filings, HST, WSIB, EHT, RST Insurance, etc)
  • Comply with all industry regulations and processes set by General Motors, GM Financial and other financial institutions
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
  • Conduct periodic internal audits to identify and address areas of improvement.
