Description:

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or life sciences (e.g., chemical engineering, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, etc.), or equivalent post-baccalaureate credentials.
  • Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, English, or related disciplines coupled with substantial professional training and experience may be considered on an exceptional basis or equivalent post-baccalaureate credentials.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in biomanufacturing and/or business development within the biomanufacturing industry.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Solid understanding of the biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry, technologies utilized, and key business drivers sufficient to lead discussion with prospective and existing partners.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and particularly the ability to present information clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.
  • Good facilitation, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills with an ability to build exciting collaborations by bridging between external organizations and internal scientific and technical staff
  • Well-developed attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders on a single project.
  • Flexibility to navigate changing work landscape
  • Highly motivated and self-driven

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hands on experience in the biomanufacturing industry is highly desirable
  • Master’s in business administration is desirable
  • Project management experience is highly desirable
  • Experience in business development
  • Teaching experience in the area of biomanufacturing
  • Experience visioning, developing, implementing, and measuring the success of marketing, fundraising, and engagement strategies
  • Advanced knowledge of social media platforms for marketing purposes (e.g., LinkedIn).

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Part of the College of Engineering, the Golden LEAF Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) is a unique, cross-disciplinary instructional center that provides educational and training opportunities to develop skilled professionals for the biomanufacturing industry. It does this through its academic programs and educational programs designed for professionals. BTEC also provides bioprocess development and analytical services to a wide range of customers from academia and industry and is actively involved in research programs, supported by various agencies, focused on topics of importance to the biomanufacturing industry.
This is a permanent staff position that will report to the Director, Industry Programs and Research. The Assistant Director, Industry Programs will work effectively and collaboratively with BTEC leadership and staff to create, nurture, and expand existing relations and partnerships with both internal (to NC State) and external organizations. The position will develop and execute a vision for BTEC marketing and new engagement opportunities in the areas of contract services, customized professional development, advisory board engagement, alumni engagement, collaborations with the community college and K-12 outreach.

Essential Job Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead business efforts focused on BTEC’s professional development program, including identifying new recipients of training, identifying subject matter experts to develop new relevant curriculum, and identifying prospective partners with the manager of educational communications.
  • Lead business efforts focused on BTEC’s bioprocess services program, including identifying prospective partners with the Director, Industry Programs and Research.
  • Lead BTEC’s marketing efforts by providing a vision for BTEC marketing, leading BTEC’s marketing committee, and coordinating marketing activities among all of BTEC’s programs (academic, professional/short course, bioprocess services).
  • Support external communication efforts including brand management, the use of social media, press releases, newsletters, etc. This will include coordination with College of Engineering communications.
  • Support (including coordination of) content creation for various BTEC communications including promotional videos, electronic mailings, newsletters, feature stories, electronic displays, and printed advertisement.
  • Work closely with BTEC’s advisory board members to facilitate and foster engagement.
  • Work closely with the various community colleges in North Carolina to further collaboration.
  • Provide leadership to K-12 outreach with focus on attracting and retaining diverse talent of exceptional quality.
