DESCRIPTION:

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, Real Estate and working in close collaboration with the Director Finance and Administration (Spaces & Experiences), the Assistant Director, Real Estate Finance and Accounting is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the overall financial management of the 4Corners real estate portfolio. The initial focus of this role will be the financial processes and management of the assets that fall under the 4Corners strategy with the intention to grow this role to include oversight of finance and accounting for relevant real estate assets that fall within the broader Spaces and Experience student housing portfolio. Responsibilities include strategic planning and budget analysis; financial forecasting; financial process development and implementation; analysis and evaluation; and financial advice. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the implementation of new accounting processes and software, reporting on a property and portfolio level basis, joint venture accounting and reporting, development and capital accounting, budgeting, and oversight of rental reconciliations in collaboration with the broader Spaces and Experiences accounting team. The incumbent is also responsible for the development and presentation of multi-year budgets and plans.
The portfolio includes income producing assets, assets under development and assets in various stages of pre-development. The financial portfolio is varied across asset class including retail, office, housing as well as pre-development and development sites at different stages and partnership configurations. This is a supervisory role with current team members as well as an opportunity to build out the team for the broader growth of the 4Corners, and Spaces & Experiences division.

EDUCATION:

  • University degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration, and/or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPA designation required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ related experience, with a minimum 2 years’ managerial experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting and/or financial principles and procedures, direct experience in commercial real estate in a function that would provide similar experience as required.

SKILLS:

  • Superior analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to manage organizational change.
  • Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with financial and non-financial senior administrators throughout the university.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, project management and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative with emphasis on long-term strategic planning.
