About the Organisation
The Singapore Food Agency’s mission is to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore.
The Digital Office (DGO) under the Science and Technology Division (S&T) designs, builds, and refreshes SFA’s digital capabilities and systems to enable effective, efficient, and resilient organisation processes.
The candidate will work in the Data Governance and Transformation Department under DGO. They will catalyse SFA’s transformation into a digital-to-the-core organisation through leveraging data for shaping policy, planning and operations. Core responsibilities including leading, architecting and designing, and building the next-generation data warehouse to enable SFA to harness data for insights effectively. Through the work, they will support SFA’s efforts to further transform into a digitally enabled organisation.

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline
  • Preferably 3-5 years relevant experience in data management/ architecture as well as systems and project management
  • Experience with data warehousing, ETL pipelines, big data technologies, database performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • Good understanding of data modelling, database design and data management principles
  • Experience in basic data engineering, such as writing efficient SQL and manipulating structured and unstructured data sources for analysis
  • Familiarity with cloud computing technologies (e.g., Azure/AWS/GCP) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark), implementation of past projects on government commercial cloud would be advantageous
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills, able to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Be inquisitive and an advocate for best practices and continuous learning to stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies

Responsibilities:

  • Define blueprint for building an integrated framework of easily accessible, secure data aligned with business strategy, and develop an overall data architecture that serves policy, operations and service delivery needs
  • Responsible for designing, creating and managing end-to-end data architecture – providing recommendations and selecting the platform that best meets SFA business requirements, designing the technical architecture, developing the application, and testing and implementing the solution
  • Collaborate with respective data owners, business users and systems project managers to share and integrate datasets, optimise data flow, and support the data needs across teams, systems, and projects to ensure that data assets are aligned with business objectives and are efficiently managed throughout their lifecycle
  • Assess current and future data storage and processing needs and develop strategies for scaling the data infrastructure to meet growing demands effectively
  • Research and recommend new emerging data management technologies, tools and platforms that will support the organisation’s data architecture objectives and add value to the organisation
  • Work closely with other departments within the Digital Office e.g. Infrastructure & Security Department to ensure adequate protection and resilience of the data architecture
  • Ensure data architecture abides by best practices across industry and Whole-of-Government (WOG) in data governance and data security
