Description:
THE POSITION
We are seeking an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person with strong Program and Contract Management skills, and demonstrated engagement experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This position requires a detailed understanding of the cultural connection of Traditional Owners with the Great Barrier Reef. The position will work closely with Great Barrier Reef Traditional Owners and other First Nations people including remote communities, corporations and bodies established to assist First Nations people and business.
This position is within the TUMRA Section which is responsible for Traditional Use of Marine Resources Agreements (TUMRA) and Sea Country Values Mapping Programs.
This Assistant Director position is responsible for providing strategic support to the TUMRA Section, providing leadership and direction to the team. This requires demonstrated ability to develop and lead a culturally inclusive, dynamic and innovative team, paving the way for transformational change. Represent the team to develop and maintain a strong and sustainable partnership with Traditional Owners in order to oversee the negotiation, development and implementation of multi-jurisdictional traditional sea country estate management that aligns with Traditional Owner aspirations, self-determination and cultural heritage protection.

The current position is ongoing however through this process may create a merit pool to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions that become available within the next 18 months.
