The AEC values and commitments are an essential component of our operating environment and frame how AEC staff work. The AEC’s focus is on electoral integrity through the values of quality, agility and professionalism.

THE OPPORTUNITIES

We are looking for strong leaders who are agile, self-motivated, and results-driven to manage electoral event planning, delivery, and evaluation in NSW/ACT. These opportunities are for an initial period of up to 6 months and may be extended, or ongoing based on business needs.
There are multiple permanent opportunities based in Haymarket. Out-posting will be considered to various regional locations across the state where the AEC has a divisional office.
You will contribute to the development of team objectives for short term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives, including setting priorities for the work area, maintaining team cohesion, and ensuring quality of outputs for the work area.
We’re looking for talented people who are excellent communicators, can manage multiple stakeholder relationships effectively, and deliver quality results within tight deadlines. Initiative, strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to contribute to business improvement strategies will be essential.
During an election, you will also need to be responsive and show professional resilience and personal drive to deal with the high demand and volume of work generated at election time.
Assistant Director, Operations.
This position oversees the day-to-day work of a portfolio of AEC divisional offices across the NSW and ACT divisional network and is required to travel across the state to support regionally based teams.
Assistant Director State Office
This role oversees state-wide business governance activities and electoral event activities for identified centralised processes including financial management, workforce planning, logistics and assurance.
We are also seeking interest from individuals interested in opportunities to work with the AEC in the future as positions become available across New South Wales. Depending on the business needs and requirements of the AEC, these positions may be offered as either ongoing or non-ongoing opportunities.

To excel you’ll have:

  • Leadership and people management experience with the ability to empower and motivate employees by providing clear direction, delegation and supporting staff with development opportunities and coaching to build a high performing team.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake critical analysis, using data and information to identify interdependencies/risks, to design and implement practical, evidence-based solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude in a dynamic and challenging environment, adapt and respond to rapid change and lead your teams to achieve results in this context, while supporting the health and wellbeing of staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with influence, negotiate strategic outcomes and facilitate cooperation and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including from a geographically dispersed network.
  • Ability to examine your own performance and regularly seek feedback from others for personal and professional development, with demonstrated ability to work autonomously.
  • A strong commitment to collaboration as a tool to facilitate and drive work to achieve a nationally led, consistent approach to delivery.

Responsibilities:

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.
