JOB SUMMARY
A prosecutor in the juvenile unit handles cases filed that involve criminal acts committed by juvenile offenders within Lancaster County. This person must develop the ability to handle all stages of juvenile prosecution to include detention hearings, status conferences, hearings and appeals. This person must have an understanding of the Rules of Evidence as well as the Juvenile Act and the Rules of Juvenile Court.
This position also involves managing a case load of general trial cases, to include retail thefts, forgeries, DUIs, and other various offenses. This person must have a working knowledge of the criminal justice system in order to shepherd cases from the preliminary hearing stage through trial and appeal.
The position includes all the other conventional duties such as working with the police and victims and presenting parole violations, guilty pleas, sentencings and bench warrants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Juris Doctorate
Admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of PA
- Salary may increase with commensurate with experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be knowledgeable of the PA crimes code as well as the Rules of Criminal Procedure. Must have knowledge of the Rules of Juvenile Court as well as the Juvenile Act.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily sedentary in nature; no special demands are required.
Must be able to work extended hours when in a trial and/or on a major investigation as needed.
Responsibilities:
Present guilty plea lists to court.
Present parole violation hearings.
Represent the office in bench warrant court.
Handle questions from and advise police officers on cases and law.
Present sentencings.
Act as Duty DA to be on call for the office on a rotating basis.
Draft appellate briefs.
Provide trainings to police when requested by the DA.
Perform other duties as assigned.
