Job Description

ABOUT YOU:

We are looking for a technically strong candidate, who enjoys collaborating with internal and external partners, and seeks a challenging new job in a fast-paced environment. As an ideal candidate you possess the following experience, skills and mindset:

  • A Law degree and license to practice law within Canada. A license to practice in any state within the United (and preferably New York and/or Connecticut) is also a plus
  • Four or more years of experience at a law firm or in-house legal department. Ideally, you have prior client-facing experience with (re)insurance or financial institutions
  • International, cross-jurisdictional experience and exposure is a plus
  • Experience with cyber security, data protection and North American privacy regulation
  • Prior experience with life and health (re)insurance products, including contract negotiation and regulation is a plus
  • Good project management capabilities
  • Open to change” and “can do” attitude
  • Fluent in English, other languages, ideally French or Spanish, are an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication style
  • Effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and on own initiative
  • Previously demonstrated ability to work well within a team, and to build strong relationships with colleagues
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
  • Knowledge of Canadian (re)insurance laws and regulations is preferable

Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with appropriate Legal Department leadership, retain, oversee, and manage the work of outside counsel and ensure adherence to outside counsel guidelines and budget requirements
  • Provide correct and timely assessment of legal and compliance issues and give customer focused and solution oriented legal advice, while retaining independence as legal adviser
  • Identify, manage and mitigate legal, regulatory and reputational risks
  • Provide assistance and support to the company and fellow legal team members on a wide range of regulatory matters, including cyber security and data protection
  • Negotiate and assist in drafting of specialized life and health reinsurance agreements
  • Provide legal research, counsel and support to non-legal managers and employees on various aspects of PartnerRe’s business
  • Provide general corporate/commercial advice to the business on a variety of legal issues including HR and employment matter
