Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
Assists the Head Grower in all phases of the greenhouse operation including; taking water samples, mixing fertilizer, recording and measuring plant data, monitoring plant growth, and training staff.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
- 2 – 4 year degree in Horticulture, Agriculture or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a cucumber and/or tomato greenhouse is required
- Calculation of amounts, proportions, percentages and volume for the application of fertilizers, chemicals and water
- Knowledge of major plant groups and their culture and growth traits
- Identification of plant diseases and the existence of insects
- Prior people-management experience in a greenhouse environment
- Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to train team members and interact with all levels of the organization
- Fluency in English and Spanish is preferred

Responsibilities:
- Assists in all aspects of the production process including: greenhouse climate control systems management, crop maintenance, taking water samples, mixing and applying fertilizer, recording and measuring plant data, monitoring plant growth, and training staff
- Assists in crop inspection; removes substandard or diseased plants to maintain quality standards
- Supervises the winding, suckering, de-leafing, lowering, pruning, inspecting and harvesting of crops
- Ensures all produce is harvested with strict adherence to Food Safety policies and customer specifications
- Responds to events or issues that threaten harvesting, quality as well as the health and safety of the employees
- Ensures that all workers adhere to GMP’s, SOP’s and policies & procedures
- Holds employees accountable to maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Trains and communicates with Greenhouse employees as directed by the Labor Manager
- Maintains current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies
- Other core expectations as defined by the company
