Working as a member of the NWHHS Maternity Services, this role’s primary focus is to assist with safe, quality, and culturally responsive care to enable a positive experience and health outcomes for patients, their families and carers within the Midwifery Group Practice delivering services to the Mount Isa and North West Queensland communities.
The role will work with and under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse or Midwife.
Temporary part-time role up to 5 months (with possible extension), 38 hours p.f. (working 20 hours p.w. with an Accrued Day Off / month).

Base salary rates between $32.23 and $35.29 p.h. (Assistant in Midwifery, Nurse Grade 1 - Band 1).
Base salary rate of $33.33 p.h. (Undergraduate Student in Midwifery, Nurse Grade 2 - 2nd Year).

Requirements

  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be indigenous to the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Appointment as an Assistant in Midwifery: Applicants who meet one of the following criteria are considered highly desirable:
  • Hold a relevant Certificate III in Aged Care, Health Service Assistant or equivalent, or
  • Successful completion of the first semester full-time equivalent Diploma of Nursing/Midwifery course including all theoretical and clinical competencies.
  • Appointment as an Undergraduate Student in Midwifery (2nd Year):
  • Successful completion of the first year full-time equivalent undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing/Midwifery course including all theoretical and clinical competencies is mandatory.
  • Pre-employment screening will be undertaken for the successful applicant.
  • Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
